The charity makes a significant difference to the lives of people with sight loss and is particularly meaningful to St. John's as local residents who foster dogs regularly take them into school to educate the children.

Pupils demonstrated great enthusiasm, generosity and compassion by designing a cake in the style of a bible story to raise the cash.

They particularly enjoyed learning more about how the charity helps people gain greater independence and confidence.

Teacher Shaun Shepherd said: "Supporting Guide Dogs North West has strengthened our school's sense of community and highlighted the positive impact that small acts of kindness can have on others.

"I am so proud of the money raised by our school community. It is inspiring to see their ideas come to life for a worthwhile cause."
